How Talking Books operate

De Montfort Talking Books (DTBS) are distributed from premises at the back of Kenilworth library.  The service is managed by teams of volunteers  each weekday morning.

When Readers first register they are given 2 books in a plastic wallet. The audio tapes are numbered using braille (1=I, 2=II, 3=III etc). The wallets have reversible address labels with one side identified by dymo tape so that readers can easily return them.  Postage is all free.

DTBS keeps a sheet for each reader so that they have a record of personal tastes and also of which books have been sent previously. There is no limit to the number of books supplied.

About 200 books are distributed each week.  Most days 2 sacks of mail are received and sorted into alphabetical order of readers using the address labels.   Tapes are booked in and replaced in the correct boxes on the shelf.  Damaged tapes are repaired by the resident technical team.
