Vision Support Desk at Warwick Hospital

The WAB Vision Support Desk at Warwick Hospital previously known as The Advice and information Desk has now been running for just over 12 months.
It is proving to be very useful for both WAB, the patients and the Hospital with over ninety people being referred.

We currently attend two clinics a week. On a Wednesday afternoon there is a Lucentis clinic. This is the treatment for Wet Macular Degeneration and therefore most people are aware of their eye condition but not aware of what we can offer in the way of services at WAB.
The clinic we attend on a Thursday afternoon is a mixed clinic consisting of Lucentis, Diabetic and Stroke patients and also a
Low Vision clinic.

The patients who attend the Low Vision clinic are made aware that we are available if they feel they need our service when they have seen the Optometrist.
The hospital staff are aware of when we are available and often bring people to see us. It can be an emotional time for anyone who is being certified as Blind or Partially Sighted and we hope by being there we can make a difference at this difficult time.

WAB has been invited to give talks to the staff at the hospital and recently in conjunction with National Falls Week were invited on a tour of some of the wards with the Matron.
We now consider our service to be part of the Machen Eye Unit.
